Artist Statement.

After many years of making sculptures, I returned to painting using the forest behind my house as inspiration. My paintings are landscapes. Although not in the conventional sense, they usually contain imagery that is recognizable such as a tree or sky. More recently, I have added images of statues and strange, possibly ruined, buildings. I photograph old churches that contain examples of Medieval carvings in wood and stone which I digitally alter and print. I make collages using my prints to develop ideas for my paintings. I map out rough images with a graphite pencil and then fill in the resulting shapes with acrylic paint. After that is done, I get into the more detailed work. I rarely make a painting that completely copies the collage. In my paintings, I try to suggest, never to fully explain. My process is intuitive.
