Artist Statement.
After several decades of making sculptures, I returned to painting using the forest where I live as a primary inspiration. My paintings are landscapes, but not in the conventional sense. They include recognizable imagery from nature, sometimes combined with strange, possibly ruined, architecture.
I begin by photographing the forest and images of old buildings and ancient ruins which I then digitally alter and print. To expand my ideas, I make collages using the prints. My paintings develop intuitively from those collages.
My paintings suggest, never fully explain, leaving a mystery for the viewer to decipher.
