Artist Statement.
After several decades of making sculptures, I returned to painting using the forest behind my house as a primary inspiration. My paintings are landscapes, but not in the conventional sense. They include recognizable imagery from nature, sometimes combined with strange, possibly ruined, buildings and statues.
I begin by photographing the forest at different times of the year and also by collecting images of old buildings, both of which I then digitally alter and print. To expand my ideas, I make collages using the prints. My paintings develop intuitively from those collages.
My paintings suggest, never fully explain, leaving a mystery for the viewer to decipher.
